Angela Stenzel is a mezzo-soprano who has called Nashville home for over 10 years and is working to complete her Master’s in Vocal Performance at Belmont University. Praised by Music City Review for her “warm, rich mezzo register,” and expansive range, she is creating a name for herself in a vibrant music community. She can be seen performing regularly with the Belmont Opera Theatre, Nashville Symphony Chorus, and Vocal Arts Nashville. This season she performed with the Belmont Wind Ensemble to showcase James Stephenson’s Symphony No. 2 Voices, where she had the chance to work with the composer to prepare for the performance. Belmont’s New Music Ensemble has become a familiar place for her as well, as she has been working alongside them to showcase living composers’ new works. Angela's operatic roles and her recent credits include Jo in Little Women (scenes), Hansel in Hansel and Gretel (scenes), and Zita in Gianni Schicchi (Opera Lucca).

Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Angela quickly discovered her love for music and began to sing every chance she had; from her local church, to school choirs (of which she sang in every available ensemble), and school musicals, she was nurturing her love of performance. Attending Belmont University to obtain her Bachelor of Music in Music Education was the next step in her journey, and here she was selected as a Finalist in the Classical Singer's Recital two years in a row. While she was not a performance major, Angela found great joy in her repertoire and showcased her best works in a Senior Recital.

After a hiatus, Angela found herself back at Belmont University to obtain her Master of Music in Vocal Performance, where she currently studies with Dr. Savanna Sokolnicki. In pursuit of this degree, she has developed a profound love for opera and has a deep appreciation for the art form that allows her to express the human experience. She advanced to the NATS Nationals in 2024, and was recently selected as a winner in the 2025 Graduate Honors Recital at Belmont University. In addition to performing in the Belmont Opera Theatre program, she has had the chance to participate in the Opera Lucca program where she performed the role of Zita in Gianni Schicchi. Angela had the honor to work with internationally-renowned soprano Kathryn Lewek in both a masterclass and an opera intensive in the 2024-2025 school year, where she had the chance to deeply explore her aria work and her upcoming role as the Witch in Hansel and Gretel

When she isn’t on stage, Angela can be found at home with her husband, Zach, their two corgis, Phoebe and Finn, and their cat, BMO. The whole family loves to hike at their local parks and spend the warmer months outside on the patio. She enjoys baking and has even made a wedding cake for a close friend (and her 100+ guests!). An avid reader and Peloton-er, you will most likely catch her reading fantasy fiction or taking a class with Tunde or Robin.
